What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into strategic points to balance the flow of energy and create homeostasis inside the body. Stimulating these acupuncture points along the nerves, muscles, & connective tissue stimulates production and release of natural painkillers, balances out hormones and the autonomic nervous system, improves blood circulation, boosts immunity and can aid digestion.

What are the Benefits of Acupuncture?

From the traditional understanding, the body has a system of energetic channels that provide energy to tissues, organs and the mind. Modern life situations can block energy and prevent it from nourishing these tissues (stress, improper diet, infections, physical and emotional trauma) and when energy is blocked, symptoms begin.  Acupuncture can remove these blockages, restore energy flow, prevent disease and restore function for many conditions.

From a modern physiology perspective:

  • Calms the nervous system by shifting autonomic nervous system function from sympathetic to parasympathetic predominance, which reduces stress and influences digestion, immunity, hormonal and neurological functioning.
  • Reduces inflammation.
  • Relieves pain by stimulating the endogenous opioid system. These are endorphins and enkephalins, and are potent painkillers.
  • Increases circulation by increasing the diameter of the blood vessels.
  • Calms the nervous system by shifting autonomic nervous system function from sympathetic to parasympathetic predominance, which reduces stress and influences digestion, immunity, hormonal and neurological functioning.

Acupuncture can treat:

  • Digestion- constipation, diarrhea, irregular appetite, bloating, gas, abdominal pain, ulcers, acid reflux, weight management, pre-diabetes.
  • Emotional Balance- stress, anxiety, panic attacks, night terrors, trauma, PTSD, depression, anger, frustration, confusion, insomnia, ADHD, addiction and opioid dependence.
  • Hormonal Balance- menstrual disorders, PMS, menopause, andropause.
  • Energy and Circulation- chronic fatigue, insomnia, adrenal fatigue, fatigue after eating, cold hands and feet, edema, numbness and tingling, sexual dysfunction.
  • Pain Management- headaches, migraines, neck pain, back pain, joint pain, arthritis, neuropathy.
  • Immune System- asthma, allergies, cold, congestion, sinus issues/ headaches, low immunity, frequent infections, immune disorders, side effects of chemotherapy.
  • Neurological Conditions- MS, fibromyalgia, headaches, migraines, tremors, dizziness, vertigo, neuropathy, numbness and tingling, post-herpetic neuralgia.
